Membership at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology as a student ends
- with a proper de-registration upon request
- with de-registration ex officio
De-registation can be requested at any after completion of studies or due to other reasons.
Studies principially end with completion of the last exam - as a rule, on the day of handing in the diploma, bachelor's or master's thesis.
Dating de-registration to a date in the past is not possible! As a rule, de-registration is realized at the end of the semester and upon request can be realized immediately in case of extraordinary reasons (§62 Landeshochschulgesetz, State Higher Education Act). Please also consider the regulations for the examination period which overlaps six weeks into the following semester. To take part in examinations, a re-registration is not necessary if one assumes a successful completion of studies and does not wish to continue their studies at KIT.
Diploms and certificates can only be issued after proper de-registration.
Cancellation of registration before start of the 1st semester
It is possible to rescind your place to study and request a refund for all paid fees up to the start of the lecture period of the 1st semester. Please fill out the Request for refund of fees PDF and doublecheck your bank data (IBAN, BIC, name of the bank, first and last name of the accounth older as well as SWIFT should payment need to be made outside of the EU).
Should you already have been issued a KIT-Card, reimbursement is only possible if you return your student ID card including all certificates of enrollment or submit an informal statement of their destruction.
