Degree and duration

Studienaufbau

Der Studiengang Chemieingenieurwesen und Verfahrenstechnik verbindet Ingenieur- und Naturwissenschaften. Am Anfang werden die Grundlagen in Mathematik und Chemie sowie Technischer Mechanik, Werkstoffkunde, Numerik und Maschinenkonstruktion gelegt. Neben den Vorlesungen werden die Inhalte auch in Laborpraktika vermittelt. Vertiefte Kenntnisse in Thermodynamik, Fluiddynamik etc. ermöglichen dir das Verständnis technologischer Prozesse. Im höheren Semester lernst du alle Operationen der Verfahrenstechnik kennen. Zur Anwendung kommen sie in einem gewählten Profilfach. Zur Auswahl stehen:

  • Wasserqualität und Verfahrenstechnik zur Wasser- / Abwasserbehandlung

Die Bachelorarbeit ist eine weitere Möglichkeit, sich mit einem gewählten Thema auseinanderzusetzen.

The Bachelor's program provides knowledge on scientific fundamentals and methodical expertise in the area of Chemical and Process Engineering. The Bachelor's degree qualifies students to enroll for a Master's program. Furthermore, it enables students to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge to a concrete professional field.

The compulsory program in the first and second year focuses on methodical and qualified fundamental knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. This includes in particular the knowledge of heat and mass transfer and the most important unit operations in the field of thermal, chemical and mechanical process engineering. Graduates will be able to balance engineering processes appropriately.

The knowledge acquired in the first and second year is not only the basis for the third year of the Bachelor's program, but also for the following Master's studies. Mandatory elective courses in the third year of study offer the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge in a specialist area for the first time. As part of the specialization, students will apply basic process engineering knowledge in a project work. In addition to technical aspects, working on a project in a team as well as preparing, interpreting and presenting the results are important parts of the specialization subject.

Within their Bachelor's thesis, students prove the ability to work on specialized problems in the field of chemical and process engineering independently and within a defined time frame using scientific methods.

Graduates are qualified to identify, abstract, and solve technical problems using the basic knowledge provided during the Bachelor's program. Furthermore, they can evaluate products and processes systematically as well as select and apply analyzing and simulation tools. They are able to combine theory and practice as well as to organize and implement projects independently. Graduates are able to collaborate with experts in other fields.

Nach dem Bachelorabschluss hast du die Möglichkeit, im Masterstudium dein Wissen zu vertiefen. Wenn es dich in den Beruf zieht, öffnen sich dir viele Arbeitsfelder. Hierbei sind vor allem die Energie-, Lebensmittel-, Pharma- und Kosmetikbranche zu nennen, aber auch Fahrzeugtechnik und Anlagenbau, sowie Abfallbehandlung, Nachwachsende Rohstoffe, Medizin-, Umwelt- und Versorgungstechnik. Du wirst Verfahren optimieren im Sinne der Nachhaltigkeit, Sicherheit und Produktqualität, technische Apparate konstruieren oder neuartige Produkte entwickeln. Auch in der Qualitätskontrolle oder im Vertrieb kannst du deine Kenntnisse einsetzen. Für Führungsaufgaben und Tätigkeiten in Forschung und Entwicklung wird in der Regel der Masterabschluss verlangt. In Produktion, Konstruktion und Vertrieb werden auch Bachelors gerne eingesetzt.

German applicants and those with German-equivalent applicant status

Germans, EU nationals, and non-EU nationals with a German university entrance qualification are eligible to study at KIT if they have one of the following qualifications:

  1. General university entrance qualification (Abitur)
  2. (relevant) Fachgebundene Hochschulreife (subject-linked university entrance qualification, not Fachhochschulreife / university of applied sciences entrace qualification)
  3. Delta examination of the University of Mannheim (for holders of a Fachhochschulreife)
  4. a recognized diploma of advanced vocational training (e.g. technician, Meister diploma for craftsman) or an aptitude test for vocationally qualified persons

Furthermore, prerequisite for enrollment is the participation in a study orientation test (e.g. at www.was-studiere-ich.de) or a study orientation counseling, e.g. by the Zentrale Studienberatung (student advisory services) at KIT, according to §60 Landeshochschulgesetz (State Higher Education Act).

German citizens with foreign school-leaving qualifications must have the equivalence of their qualification with the German Abitur certified by the responsible Regierungspraesidium (regional authority).

Foreign nationals (non-EU)

In Germany, the school leaving certificate of institutions in certain countries is accepted as direct means to enter university. In order to start your bachelor's studies in Germany, a university entrange test and / or one completed year of education at an institute of higher education and / or the "Feststellungsprüfung" (test of aptitude of foreign applicants for studies at universities in Germany) needs to be demonstrated in addition in most cases. You can find country-specific regulations in the "Zulassungsdatenbank des DAAD" (database on adimission requirements of the German Academy Exchange Service) or in the Anabin database (database of the "Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen", only available in German). Knowledge of the German language for foreign nationals

In order to be accepted into a study program taught in German, foreign nationals need to demonstrate knowledge of the German language. For your application, you need to demonstrate knowledge of level B1. All such certificates are accepted, even a certificate of attendance of a B1 course. During the enrollment process, you need to submit a DSH2 certificate or an accepted equivalent thereof. If you have further questions, please contact the International Students Office.
