Graduation documents are made up of a certificate (bilingual), a diploma, a diploma supplement and a transcript of records (separate German and English versions). You will also receive a certified copy of the certificate and of the diploma.

Procedure after graduation

Proper de-registration upon request is a requirement for the issue of graduation documents.

As soon as your last examination has been noted, you will receive an email from our Graduation Documents Team asking for your assistance in processing the additional achievements, as well as your personal data and the eventual receipt of the graduation documents.

After preparation of the final documents, they will enter circulation for signatures (dean's office of your KIT department and KIT executive board) which will take several weeks.

Important: If you would like your graduation documents to be sent to you by registered mail, please remember to update your postal address in the Campus Management Portal (student portal) under "Personal Information". If you would like to collect the documents, please only make an appointment for the collection of your graduation documents after you have been notified that they are ready for pick up!

Titelfuehrungsbescheinigung (= certificate of title, proof of graduation)

As soon as a 4,0 certificate (4,0 Bescheinigung) has been issued for the last, for graduation necessary study achievement or the achievement has been marked "passed at minimum", it is possible to download a "Titelfuehrungsbescheinigung" (certificate of title) in both German and English in the Campus Management Portal (Studierendenportal) in section "Study Certificates". The "Titelfuehrungsbescheinigung" is available up to 6 months after de-registration. The "Titelfuehrungsbescheinigung" serves as attestation of a successful graduation at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and is your authorization to hold the acquired academic title. It is an official certification and thus is valid until the final graduation documents are issued. The "Titelfuehrungsbescheinigung" contains a verfication key and is intended as an internationally valid, provisional proof of your degree to third parties. In addition, a grade table listing all overall and individual grades can be downloaded in the Studierendenportal. After de-registration, we recommend you download and save all available documents and certificates for the future as re-issuance of any of these certificates is subject to a fee.

Loss of documents

In case of loss or damage of original documents, a duplicate PDF can be issued upon request. Please note that in certain cases a certified copy of the original documents is sufficient. According to §2 of the "Satzung über die Erhebung von Gebühren für das Gasthörer‐Studium und sonstige studienbezogene Dienstleistungen", re-issuance of any documents is subject to a fee.
