Art-History: Landscape Imagery. Forms, Practices, Concepts from Antiquity to the Present Day

Content

Landscape images take many forms and functions, they arise from many practices, concepts, and intentions, all of which change over time. The lecture tells this story and discusses types and themes, materials and practices (drawing, watercolor, oil sketch, book and map printing, painting, photography, performance, digital imaging, etc.) and the associated motivations and ideas from antiquity to the present day. We gain insight into the diversity of values and forces that regulate the creation and reception of landscape imagery, revealing that it has always been much more than just beautiful views.
