Grundbegriffe der Wirtschaftsinformatik, Konzepte und Systeme zur Digitalisierung auf den Ebenen Individuum, Gruppe, Organisation und Markt
  2. Informatik (54 - 63 LP)
Grundbegriffe der Informatik, Programmieren, Algorithmen, Theoretische Grundlagen, Kommunikation und Datenhaltung, Angewandte Informatik, Softwaretechnik
  3. Mathematik (26 LP)
Lineare Algebra, Analysis, Entwicklung mathematischer Modelle, Deskriptive Statistik, Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie, Elemente der Schätz- und Testtheorie
  4. Wirtschaftswissenschaften (31 - 40 LP)
Betriebswirtschaftslehre (Marketing, Produktion, Finanz- und Rechnungswesen), Operations Research und Volkswirtschaftslehre
  5. Rechtswissenschaften (26 LP)

KIT’s Information Systems Program is characterized by practiced real interdisciplinarity based on an interdepartmental model. The contents of studies in the first four semesters are organized in five focus areas:

  1. Information Systems (basic concepts of information systems, concepts and systems for digitalization on the levels of the individual, group, organization, and market).
  2. Informatics (basic concepts of informatics, programming, algorithms, theoretical basics, communication and data storage, applied informatics, software technology).
  3. Mathematics & Statistics (linear algebra, analysis, development of mathematical models, descriptive statistics, probability theory, elements of estimation and testing theory).
  4. Economics and Management (business administration, marketing, production, finance and accounting, operations research, and economics).
  5. Law (basics of the Civil Code, public law, trade law).

The team project “software development” in the 5th semester implements the research-based teaching concept and ensures high practical relevance of the studies. In teams, students develop a functioning application software using latest methods and tools. The program is complemented by a variety of electives offered by the KIT Department of Economics and Management and the KIT Department of Informatics. In this way, students are given the opportunity to specialize as desired during Bachelor's studies already. Students can decide in favor of a focus with 9 or 18 credits in Informatics or Economics and Management.

Thanks to the basic methodological knowledge acquired, graduates can name specific basic concepts, methods, models, and approaches and use them in an interdisciplinary way.

They can identify, describe, and communicate problems and topics of economics and management, information technology, and law. Along this range of topics, they can plan, analyze, compare, evaluate, and optimize information systems and infrastructures in business and society. They make decisions, develop specific solutions, and implement their innovative ideas using methods and models from the different disciplines taking into account the given resources. Graduates can document, present, validate, assess, and assure the quality of the results obtained. KIT’s graduates of the Bachelor's program in Information Systems are capable of executing a corresponding task in industry, in the services sector, or in the trades sector, of establishing an own business, or starting Master's studies in Information Systems or a related subject.

The contents of the studies are structured in a modular way.

In the subjects of Informatics and Economics/Management, modules in the total amount of 94 credits have to be passed.

Transferable skills in the amount of 6 credits are imparted mainly in the modules of Information Systems I, Programming, team project, and Bachelor's Thesis.

For additional possibilities, see §58 of the Landeshochschulgesetz (State Higher Education Act).

Furthermore, prerequisite for enrollment is the participation in a study orientation test (e.g. at www.was-studiere-ich.de) or a study orientation counseling, e.g. by the Zentrale Studienberatung (student advisory services) at KIT, according to §60 Landeshochschulgesetz (State Higher Education Act).

German citizens with foreign school-leaving qualifications must have the equivalence of their qualification with the German Abitur certified by the responsible Regierungspraesidium (regional authority).

Foreign nationals (non-EU)

In Germany, the school leaving certificate of institutions in certain countries is accepted as direct means to enter university. In order to start your bachelor's studies in Germany, a university entrange test and / or one completed year of education at an institute of higher education and / or the "Feststellungsprüfung" (test of aptitude of foreign applicants for studies at universities in Germany) needs to be demonstrated in addition in most cases. You can find country-specific regulations in the "Zulassungsdatenbank des DAAD" (database on adimission requirements of the German Academy Exchange Service) or in the Anabin database (database of the "Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen", only available in German). If you have further questions, please contact the International Students Office.

Knowledge of the German language for foreign nationals

In order to be accepted into a study program taught in German, foreign nationals need to demonstrate knowledge of the German language. For your application, you need to demonstrate knowledge of level B1. All such certificates are accepted, even a certificate of attendance of a B1 course. During the enrollment process, you need to submit a DSH2 certificate or an accepted equivalent thereof. If you have further questions, please contact the International Students Office.

Informatik)
    max. 15 Punkte
  3. sonstige Leistungen (abgeschlossene einschlägige Berufsausbildung; einschlägige Berufsausübung, besondere Vorbildungen, praktische Tätigkeiten, außerschulische Leistungen und Qualifikationen)
    max. 15 Punkte

Wert 1 + Wert 2 + Wert 3 = insgesamt max. 45 Punkte

Selection process for foreign nationals

Please note, the selection process differs for citizens of third countries (Non-EU/EEA). This selection process is based on your university entrance qualifications which can consist of your academic performance in school and, if applicated, in institutions of higher education and / or the "Feststellungsprüfung" (test of aptitude of foreign applicants for studies at universities in Germany).
